Tennessee driver killed in Interstate 57 rollover

CHAMPAIGN — One person was killed in a rollover accident on Interstate 57 on Sunday afternoon, according to the Illinois State Police.

Police say the driver, of Greenbrier, Tenn., was southbound in a 1999 Ford Expedition just south of Champaign when the vehicle went into the grass median. The driver steered the vehicle out of the median back into the roadway before losing control.

Witnesses told police the vehicle rolled over about three times. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Three passengers, ages 10, 5 and 1, were not ejected from the vehicle, and police were not available to comment on whether they were injured. The driver’s name has not been released.
