Rantoul man charged with unlawful use of a weapon

RANTOUL — A Rantoul man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $50,000 bond following an incident over the weekend.

Tony L. Caradine, 43, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Juniper Drive, Rantoul, was charged on Monday with unlawful use of a weapon.

Caradine is next scheduled to appear in court on July 23.

According to a Rantoul police report, officers were called to the 1100 block of Falcon Drive at 1:13 a.m. Saturday for a report of a man with a handgun riding a bicycle.

After getting a description of the man, police found the bicycle nearby, and they found a man matching the description given by the witness, identified as Caradine, at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Juniper Drive.

According to Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber, an occupant of an apartment said Caradine came in and displayed the gun. Police arrested Caradine and recovered a silver handgun from the scene.

Weber said Caradine is being charged with unlawful use of a weapon because he has a felony conviction from 2011 for driving with a suspended license.
