Bad transformer causes Urbana power outage

URBANA - A transformer that went bad caused several downtown Urbana locations to lose power Saturday afternoon.

Ameren IP spokesman Kenny Blum said the transformer failed for reasons he didn't know about 12:51 p.m. Power was expected to be restored by 7 p.m. Saturday.

Blum said because of work going on over the Boneyard Creek on Race Street, the power company was unable to reroute some 131 customers and instead just had to take them offline while repairs were made.
