Meal events to highlight locally grown seasonal food
A series of farm-to-table events in Champaign-Urbana will launch this week.
Local Flavors is a program of the Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois Chapter of the Illinois Stewardship Alliance, an organization that connects farmers with local restaurants.
Participating restaurants offer lunch or dinner specials that highlight fresh, seasonal and locally grown food. The goal is to open new markets for growers and give restaurants an opportunity with local farmers in the region, according to the organization.
Dinners will be on the third Thursday of every month from June to October and lunches will be on the first Tuesday of the month from June to October.
In Champaign-Urbana, the dinners will be June 20 at Escobar's in Champaign, July 20 at Hendrick House in Urbana (an exception to the Thursday schedule), Aug. 15 at Bacaro in Champaign, Sept. 19 at Destihl in Champaign and Oct. 17 at Big Grove Tavern in Champaign. Lunches will be Aug. 6 at Milo's in Urbana and Sept. 3 at Cracked, a local food truck.
Dinners and lunches are also being organized in Bloomington-Normal, Peoria and Springfield. More information is available at http://www.ilstewards.org.
