Heritage may enter co-op in volleyball with Villa Grove

HOMER — Heritage may be hosting another sport for the Villa Grove-Heritage co-op.

Currently, Heritage is the host school for boys' basketball, basketball cheer, baseball and bass fishing.

Villa Grove is the host school for football, football cheer, track, cross-country, girls' basketball and softball.

Both programs were going to maintain separate volleyball programs.

At Monday's school board meeting, Heritage Principal Tom Davis said that may change. Davis said the Villa Grove volleyball coach recently resigned. The district is concerned it will not be able to replace him quickly and approached Heritage about creating another cooperative sport.

The Heritage board previously approved co-oping any sports Villa Grove wanted to, so they saw no issue with co-oping volleyball.

The board also rehired Mike Taylor as head baseball coach and Andy Place as head boys basketball coach. Guy James was hired as bass fishing coach.

Davis also told the board that he recently saw the first item of clothing with "Villa Grove-Heritage" on it.

"It looked nice," he said.
