Township to distribute fans

CHAMPAIGN — The City of Champaign Township will be giving away free box fans to qualified recipients as temperatures are expected to hit 90 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

Fans will be available beginning Friday until supplies run out, according to a press release. Recipients must be at least 60 years old, have an income of less than $8,000 and be a resident of City of Champaign Township.

According to the press release from Township Supervisor Andy Quarnstrom, township officials have recognized the "critical need" for fans.

"High temperatures and high humidity can be a dangerous combination for senior citizens to endure, and many low-income seniors in our community don't have or can't afford air conditioning," according to the release.
