Store robbery under investigation

CHAMPAIGN - Police are looking for two men who robbed a cellphone store near Market Place Mall in north Champaign at gunpoint Friday night.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said the Wireless Store, 7 Convenience Center Road, was robbed at just after 7 p.m.

Dunn said two employees and two customers were in the store when the men entered.

One locked the door and the other pulled out a gun and ordered the people toward a room in the back of the store.

The employees were then ordered to hand over electronic items, which they did. No one was hurt and employees called police as soon as the robbers left.

Dunn said both robbers were black.

The man with the gun was described as having large eyes and a short Afro-style hairdo. He was about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a white T-shirt with possible writing on the front, dark baggy blue jeans, and a red flat-brimmed baseball hat with a white letter on it, possibly a C.

The second man was described as being about 19 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, chubby, with some facial hair. He was wearing a gray shirt with writing on it, shorts, and a tan ball cap with Cs or Gs on it.

Police are looking for two cars that they believe were related to the holdup, Dunn said.

One was a 2002 black Lincoln with three people in it. The other was a 2006 gray Nissan Maxima with tinted windows and two people inside.

Anyone with information is urged to call Champaign police at 351-4545 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
