Fire damages home in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — An overnight fire caused an estimated $35,000 damage to a single-family home and its contents in Champaign.

The fire at 915 W. Bradley Ave., C, reported at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, was out by 12:19 a.m. Monday, Champaign Fire Capt. Dave Ferber said. Firefighters left the scene at 1:48 a.m., though investigators remained until 3:51 a.m.

The cause hasn't been determined, though Ferber said he believes it started in the kitchen. That room and a back bedroom had the most damage.

The residents, Shaunna Caston, 23, and Dreshana Caston, 20, weren't home at the time, but the Castons' brother, Deundrea Weatherspon of Urbana, who was visiting, was there.

No injuries were reported.

The home is owned by Brian and Susan McQuaid of Farmer City.
