Man charged following shooting
CHAMPAIGN — A 27-year-old Champaign man is next scheduled in court on July 23 following his arrest in connection with a shooting over the weekend.
Harvey Blakely, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Winston Drive, was charged on Monday with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and two counts of a felon possessing a firearm.
Blakely’s bond was set at $1 million.
According to a police report, Champaign officers were sent to the 300 block of East Green Street at 3:14 a.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired. Witnesses told police they’d heard multiple shots and described a shooter and a vehicle.
Police found the vehicle and arrested Blakely.
The driver of the vehicle, Michael Gladney, 32, was arrested for fleeing and eluding and for disobeying a stop sign. A female passenger was apparently not arrested.
At least one vehicle was damaged, and evidence at the scene suggests more than one shooter was involved, according to the report.
Sunday’s gunfire makes at least 10 reports received this month by Champaign police of shots being fired at people. Eight men have been hit, but none is believed to have been seriously injured.
