No injuries in fire at apartment building in Urbana

URBANA — Fire hit a mostly empty apartment building on Monday in Urbana. No injuries were reported.

Urbana fire marshal Phil Edwards said a worker discovered the fire Monday morning at 1107 E. Florida Ave.

"They showed up to do some painting because they're remodeling," Edwards said, and one of the workers saw smoke when he opened the door to the apartment.

He said all the apartments on the west side of 1107-A E. Florida had smoke in them.

"There was a little bit of fire once we got inside and got the walls opened up," he said.

There was one occupant of 1107-B, but Edwards said that person got out unharmed with his pets.
