Updated: flood advisories linger into Wednesday

Updated:  4:10 p.m.

The flash flood watch for East Central Illinois has been canceled.  Instead, a flood advisory has been issued for Coles and southern Edgar Counties until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A flash flood warning has also been issued for Coles and southern Edgar Counties until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

These areas could see flooding of waterways, country roads and farm fields.  So if you come upon a flooded road, turn around and find another route.  And if you have any outdoor items near a waterway, you should secure or move them so they don't get swept away.

Meanwhile, a flood warning remains in effect for the Sangamon River at Monticello until Sunday night.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, the water level on the river was at 14.1 feet, which is 1.1 feet above what's considered a flood.  The river is expected to rise to near 15.7 feet by Thursday morning and will fall below flood stage on Sunday night.
