C-U At Home fundraiser set for Saturday

A local group that supports the homeless is hoping a fundraiser this weekend will raise enough money to hire a professional case manager.

Executive Director of C-U at Home Melany Jackson said the second annual One Summer Day event will feature people pushing grocery carts full of items that will later be donated to the homeless.

Jackson hopes to raise $20,000 at the event to hire someone to work one-on-one with homeless residents.

She added that the event will give the community an opportunity to learn more about homelessness and to feel like they are directly contributing to a solution.

Jackson also said participants can bring strollers or wagons since grocery carts will only be available to the first 50 people.

One Summer Day runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Hessel Park in Champaign.
