Man sentenced to 8 years in cannabis case

URBANA — An Indiana man who admitted having cannabis intended for sale in Champaign County was sentenced earlier this week to eight years in prison.

Tristen Brazelton, 28, of Gary, Ind., pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver cannabis, admitting that on Oct. 22, 2011, he had between four and 10 pounds of cannabis in the car he was driving on Interstate 57 near Thomasboro that day.

The initial Illinois State Police report about the arrest said he had about 21 pounds of suspected cannabis in the trunk.

Champaign County Judge Harry Clem agreed to recommend Brazelton to the Department of Corrections' boot camp program. A more serious Class X charge of cannabis trafficking was dismissed in return for Brazelton's guilty plea.
