June C-U rainfall above normal

Rainfall in Champaign-Urbana last month was slightly above normal.

State Climatologist Jim Angel said the area saw around 6.3 inches of rain in June, which is around two inches above average.

Meanwhile, Angel said the state saw an average of around 5.2 inches in June.  That's around one inch above normal and more than double the average rainfall total from June of last year when we saw 1.8 inches.

Looking at the year-to-date, Angel said Illinois has seen on average around 29 inches of rain.  That's around nine inches above average and once again more than double the average amount of rain seen during the same time last year when we saw around 13 inches.
