UI police report smooth holiday in terms of crowd, traffic

One of the organizers of the Champaign County Freedom Celebration said the return of Independence Day fireworks to the University of Illinois campus proved to be a smooth transition.

UI Police Lieutenant Todd Short said police encountered no major issues at the Fourth of July celebration on Thursday.

He added that he was especially happy to see how easily traffic moved in and out of the State Farm Center grounds.

Short also said the police department will meet with other public safety agencies next week to review the entire traffic pattern, and he welcomes any feedback that could improve things for next year's celebration.  Lt. Short can be reached at 333-1216.
