BETHANY — Police continue to investigate a double shooting near the Moultrie County town of Bethany.  One person has died.

In a news release Thursday evening, Illinois State Police said the two victims were transported to area hospitals.  Denise Robertson, 51, of rural Bethany was pronounced dead by the Macon County Coroner.  Michael Robertson, 66,  was airlifted to an area trauma center where he is undergoing treatment.  The news release did not disclose which hospital.

Police said Michael Robertson called the Coles County Emergency Communication Center Thursday and said he had been shot and needed help.   Officers with the Moultrie County Sheriff's Department and the Sullivan Police Department found the two shooting victims in a home when they arrived.

The Moultrie County Sheriff's Department contacted the Illinois State Police requesting assistance in the investigation.

An autopsy done on Denise Robertson Friday revealed she died of a single gunshot wound to the head, police said.

State police said the case remains under investigation.
