I-57 detours again planned for Windsor Road bridge work

CHAMPAIGN — Late-night drivers on Interstate 57 will be taking detours later this month as the Illinois Department of Transportation continues replacing the bridge that carries Windsor Road over I-57 in Champaign.

The Windsor Road bridge — which has seen more than a fivefold increase in traffic since the early 1980s — is being replaced with a wider bridge.

Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the nights of July 16-18, I-57 traffic will use Monticello Road, U.S. 45, Springfield Avenue, Mattis Avenue and Interstate 72.

Drivers can also expect heavier than normal construction traffic on I-57 beginning July 12.

The state estimates the project will be completed by Nov. 1, weather permitting. O'Neil Bros. Construction is the contractor for the $2.3 million project.
