PTA Council plans summer activity nights

The Champaign school district's PTA Council is hosting several summer activity nights for kids, with the first one scheduled for Wednesday evening.

It will feature activities and lessons about history and patriotism, and is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglass Community Center, 512 E. Grove St., C.

The next activity night is scheduled for July 24, also at the Douglass Center. It will focus on science, with the help of the University of Illinois' Biomedical Engineering student group.

Another is scheduled for Aug. 7 at the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St., C. That will focus on math, with help from the UI's Society of Women Engineers student group.

Those events also begin at 6:30 p.m. and will continue through 8 p.m.

Activities at all three events will be aimed at students in kindergarten through eighth grades, but younger siblings are welcome. The activity nights are open to everyone.

All of the PTA Council's activity nights will feature time for tutoring, crafts and educational games. The council will also give away free books at the events.
