Shooting investigation leads to arrest for drug case

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police arrested a man Tuesday morning with more than an ounce of suspected heroin.

A release from Champaign police Lt. Robert Rea said detectives were investigating shootings that took place in the city in June and in the process saw Kentrell L. McFarland, 20, who listed an address in the 600 block of East Vine Street, Champaign, involved in an apparent drug sale.

McFarland was arrested about 10:20 a.m. in the 600 block of West Killarney Street in Urbana. He had about 1.7 ounces (48 grams) of suspected heroin on him. Police said the street value is $100 per gram.

McFarland is expected to be formally charged on Wednesday.
