Gibson City adds liquor license category as trial for golf club

GIBSON CITY — The city council has created a new liquor license allowing the sale of alcohol on Sunday morning under limited conditions.

The restaurant at Railside Golf Club had requested the license at the council's June 24 meeting. After some discussion then, council members directed the city's attorney to draft a new license class for a trial period only.

The ordinance approved Monday night amends the current liquor code to create a Class F liquor license through April 30, 2014. Unless amended, the new license class is available to only one business during that time.

Attorney Marc Miller of Champaign said he created the ordinance to be identical to the current Class A license that allows the sale of beer, wine and mixed drinks, except it allows sales to begin at 10 a.m. on Sundays. The holder is required to offer full meals or a buffet from 10 a.m. until noon on Sundays.
