Hays: look for pension proposal later this summer

An area lawmaker said he expects a proposal on pension reform to come later this summer.

Republican State Representative Chad Hays of Catlin made the comments Wednesday on the WDWS Morning Show.

Hays said there was no reason for lawmakers to leave Springfield without passing a pension reform bill that was widely supported in the General Assembly, despite some saying it didn't go far enough to fix the system.

Hays said Senate President John Cullerton's pension bill passed overwhelmingly in the Senate, and he feels it would've had the same outcome in the House. But, he said Speaker Michael Madigan refused to call the measure, a move he called "terribly unfortunate."
