Man charged with attempted murder in Rantoul stabbing

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly beat up a woman in Rantoul and then stabbed another man who confronted him about the beating has been charged with attempted murder.

Rantoul police Sgt. Justin Bouse said Javontae Williams, 21, who listed an address in the 2900 block of West John Street, was also charged with domestic battery for allegedly hitting the woman and aggravated battery for puncturing the lung of the man he allegedly stabbed.

The battery to the 32-year-old woman happened late Tuesday night in the 600 block of Heath Drive, Bouse said. After hitting her, Williams left the house but was confronted outside by her 20-year-old nephew, Antoine Boswell.

Boswell and Williams fought a while but stopped and Williams went to another house not far away in the 1700 block of Pheasant Ridge Drive.

Bouse said Williams came back out of the second home and confronted Boswell a second time, stabbing him in the upper left chest.

Police were called to the Pheasant Ridge address, where they found Williams and arrested him.

Bouse said the woman hit had a swollen face but declined medical treatment.

Boswell was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital for treatment of his chest wound. The aggravated battery charge said his lung was punctured.

Judge Richard Klaus set bond for Williams, who has a pending case of possession of a controlled substance, at $500,000 and told him to be back in court July 30.
