Two 21-year-old Champaign residents were charged Wednesday in connection with the discovery of four handguns in a Champaign hotel last month.
Allen M. Williams and Laine R. Hopkins were arrested in Cicero by the U.S. Marshal service on Tuesday afternoon. Both were wanted on Champaign County warrants connected to weapons being found at a hotel in Champaign.
Police were called on June 26 to the Hawthorn Suites, 101 Trade Center Drive, C, for a report of illegal drugs in a room at the hotel where Williams and Hopkins had been staying. Hopkins left before police arrived and Williams ran away while they were there.
Police got a search warrant for the hotel room and found four handguns, two of which were reported stolen, as well as ammunition and a small amount of suspected cannabis.
Williams, who listed an address in the 1400 block of Queensway, Champaign, was arraigned Wednesday in Champaign County on two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. His bond was set at $500,000.
Hopkins, who listed an address in the 700 block of Southwest Drive, was arraigned on one count of possession of a stolen firearm. Her bond was set at $250,000.
Both remained Wednesday in the Champaign County jail.
