CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school board will interview six candidates next Monday to fill a vacant school board seat.
The school district announced Wedesday that a seventh candidate, Jonathan Westfield, withdrew his application.
The candidates are:
The board will interview them in open session at 6 p.m. next Monday at the Mellon Administrative Center, 703 S. New St., C. Those being interviewed are all who applied, said school district spokeswoman Stephanie Stuart.
Community members are encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to make a public comment prior to the start of interviews.
The board will go into closed session following the interviews Monday, Stuart said, and it's possible members will announce the new board member Monday, as well.
Superintendent Judy Wiegand told the board in June that a new member must be chosen by July 22, because board policy says the vacancy must be filled within 45 days.
The seat came open when former member Stig Lanesskog resigned in June.
The new board member will serve until April 2015.
