Rantoul man arrested after gun displayed

RANTOUL — A Rantoul man is being held at the Champaign County Jail after he allegedly displayed a loaded handgun during an argument Friday afternoon in Rantoul.

No injuries were reported.

According to a police report, officers were called to the 700 block of East Sangamon Avenue, at 1:43 p.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance.

Witnesses told police that a man, identified as Charles E. Burns, 58, had displayed a black handgun during the argument.

When Burns learned that police had been called, he ran away, according to the report.

Rantoul police followed the path that Burns had taken and found a loaded gun. Police then called Burns, and he agreed to return to the area.

When Burns returned, he was arrested for possession of a weapon by a felon.
