Man charged with burgling neighbor's apartment

URBANA — A Champaign man is due back in court Aug. 27 after being charged with breaking into a neighbor’s home earlier this year.

Raymond Dorris, 23, who listed an address in the 1100 block of Joanne Lane, was arraigned Friday on a single count of residential burglary alleging he broke into a home in the 1200 block of Joanne Lane on Jan. 30.

A Champaign police report said the 35-year-old victim returned home to find his apartment ransacked.

Dorris was linked to the crime through a fingerprint left on a window. The report said that after initially denying any involvement, Dorris was confronted with the fingerprint evidence and eventually admitted he broke in and stole cannabis and an iPod.

A warrant for Dorris’ arrest was issued Wednesday. He remained in the county jail Saturday in lieu of $25,000 bond.

If convicted of the Class 1 felony, Dorris faces between four and 15 years in prison.
