Police investigate armed robbery during bingo game

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are investigating an armed robbery during a bingo game at the Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge in Champaign on Monday evening.

Nobody was reported hurt, according to Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn.

According to Dunn, a man entered the lodge, located at 605 Edgebrook Drive, at 8:32 p.m. Monday, displayed a gun, pointed it at a female employee, a 23-year-old Urbana woman, and demanded money.

The robber took the money and left the building.

A bingo game was going on, with about 30 patrons in the room at the time of the incident, Dunn said.

The description of the robber was incomplete.

The Eagles Lodge was the site of another armed robbery during a bingo game in March 2011.

In that incident, police said a man entered through a back door and fired rounds into the ceiling. He grabbed money from the cash drawer and then ran out of the building.
