Woman dies in Iroquois County crash

RANKIN — A Kankakee woman was killed and a Rankin man injured in a single-vehicle crash in southern Iroquois County Monday evening.

Illinois State Police at Ashkum said the accident happened at 5:36 p.m. on Illinois 49 about three miles north of Rankin.

Haley M. Franco, 20, of Kankakee, was driving a 2002 Toyota north on 49 when the car left the road to the right, overcorrected and then hit the left guardrail.

Ms. Franco was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said she was not wearing a seat belt.

Her passenger, Preston R. Jordan, 27, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was listed Tuesday in good condition. He was wearing a seat belt.

Police said the crash is being investigated by their reconstruction unit. It was clear and dry at the time it happened, the report said.
