I-74 crash near Urbana injures three

URBANA — Three people were taken to an Urbana hospital Wednesday night following a crash involving a driver allegedly under the influence on Interstate 74 near Urbana.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said Ashley M. Thornton, 21, of Philo, was eastbound on 74 between the Cunningham and University Avenue exits just before 9 p.m. when she went to pass a vehicle on the left shoulder. Her car went off the road and into the median, then went back on the road into the driving lane where it hit another car.

Thornton’s car then rolled over several times, went across the median and came to rest in the driving lane on the west side of the interstate.

The driver of the car that Thornton struck, Todd Schlosser, 50, of Germantown, Wisc., lost control and came to rest on the westbound left shoulder.

Schlosser and his passenger, Kayla Schlosser, 17, were treated and released from Carle Foundation Hospital.

Thornton was listed in good condition Thursday morning.

She was expected to be issued tickets for driving under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs, police said.
