Man accused of stealing from roommate

URBANA — A man accused of stealing from his roommate has been charged with two felonies.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said Hashim Bryant, 20, of the 1300 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Urbana, turned himself in to police Wednesday night, aware that officers had been wanting to speak to him.

Bryant was charged Thursday with residential burglary and theft in connection with the May 29 theft of his roommate's laptop computer, an Xbox, game controller and cables from his roommate's room at the One South complex on North Lincoln Avenue.

Morgan said a witness saw a man hiding those items behind an apartment building across the street the next day and told police. Bryant was the man identified as having put them there.

If convicted of the more serious charge of residential burglary, Bryant could face between four and 15 years in prison.
