Oakwood schools' transportation chief takes safety steps

OAKWOOD — The district's transportation coordinator told the school board this week that she has instituted several safety measures to help keep the students safe, including requiring bus drivers to do daily safety sweeps to check their buses.

Darla Dicken said she has received permission from Superintendent Karen Perry to offer CPR training to the bus drivers. She wants to put cameras near the stop arm of the buses to help catch motorists who drive around stopped school buses — a violation of state law.

In other business, the district's office building has a termite problem. The board approved hiring Terminix for $3,000 for termite removal. The district has contracted Terminix for problems in the past.
