Men charged with burglary, theft

CHAMPAIGN — Two men who allegedly stole a laptop computer from a Champaign home Thursday have been charged with residential burglary and theft.

A Champaign police report said on Thursday, police were doing a court-ordered search of a home in the 500 block of Bonnymeade Drive in Champaign when a car pulled into the driveway.

The officer doing the search talked to the two men in the car and noticed a laptop computer in their car that the officer later learned had been stolen earlier in the day from a home in the 4800 block of West Windsor Road in Champaign.

Clinton Bryant, 20, of the 4800 block of West Windsor Road, Champaign, and Daniel Weiskamp, 20, of the 700 block of South Race Street, Urbana, were both arrested. They had shown up at the Bonnymeade home to see the person living there, police said.

If convicted of the more serious residential burglary charge, they face a mandatory prison term of between four and 15 years.
