Local teachers to attend conference on pork industry

A national food organization is headed to Champaign this week to give people a brighter outlook on pork.

Spokesman for the National Pork Board Bill Fisher will give a presentation on Tuesday at the Illinois Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers Association in Champaign.

Fisher's speech is all part of the Pork Board's Operation Mainstreet to highlight the benefits of pork in a balanced diet.

Fisher also said the Pork Board specifically targets family and consumer science teachers because they'll likely help form student eating habits.

Teachers from Eastern Illinois University, Champaign Central, Watseka and Oakland High Schools, as well as Urbana Middle School will be among the teachers at the event.
