Savoy OKs purchase of fire engine
SAVOY — The village board this week gave the OK to Fire Chief Michael Forrest to buy a 2014 fire engine for $545,798.
The Pierce Dash CF engine will be equipped with front and side airbags, a seat belt alarm visible to the operator and a vehicle data recorder. According to Forrest, the engine has greater visibility with a one-piece windshield, more room in the cab for firefighters, ease of maintenance and improved emergency lighting.
Forrest said he, Capt. Jeremy Leevey, Engineer Tom Scheu and Engineer Jeff Orr developed the specifications for an apparatus that was shorter in length and height and had a lower hosebed in the rear. The engine is expected to be delivered on or after May 1, 2014.
The new fire engine will replace a 1993 Pierce, which will be sold as surplus equipment.
It will be bought under the Northwest Municipal Conference agreement with Global Emergency Products, the Pierce dealer for Illinois.
