Man charged in Urbana break-in

URBANA — A Champaign man's fingerprints have linked him to a break-in at a home in Urbana earlier this year.

Lorenzo Lemons, 20, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Hanover Court, was charged Friday with residential burglary for allegedly breaking into a home in the 1000 block of Wabash Street on Feb. 25.

Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said an Urbana police report indicated that the victim came home that day and found his basement window had been removed and things were out of place. On further investigation he discovered that electronics and jewelry had been stolen.

The man's home security video system showed two men entering and leaving carrying a bag.

Urbana police were able to lift fingerprints, which were later matched to Lemons through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System.

Weber said Lemons admitted to the crime but refused to identify his partner.

If convicted of residential burglary, Lemons faces between four and 15 years in prison.
