Pair sought in iPad theft at Illini Union
URBANA — University of Illinois police are looking for two suspects involved in the theft of an iPad that was snatched right in front of the crime victim, around 4:20 p.m. Sunday.
Jeff Christensen, UI police chief, said the woman was sitting in the Illini Union when a man asked her for the time. When she looked at her watch, the man grabbed her iPad off the table and ran away. He was seen on security cameras running out the southwest doors of the Union and placing the iPad in the backpack of a second suspect.
Christensen said security cameras captured video of the suspects at various locations around the Illini Union before and after the incident.
One suspect is described as a black male, dark complexion, 19 to 20 years old, around 6 feet tall with a "high fade haircut." He was last seen wearing a white V-neck short-sleeve T-shirt; camouflage knee-length shorts; and dark colored socks with a stripe on the back of them and dark colored "Chuck Taylor" style sneakers with white on the bottom and toe area.
The other suspect is described as a black male, light complexion, also 19 to 20 years old, short hair. He was last seen wearing a dark colored short-sleeve T-shirt with yellow bands at the bottom of both arms and around the neck. The shirt also had a yellow design on the back. He was wearing dark colored (possibly gray) long pants with cargo pockets on both sides and black athletic shoes. He was carrying a dark colored back pack at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information and witnesses are asked to call UI police at 333-1216, or Crimestoppers of Champaign County at 373-TIPS.
