UI helping out with concealed carry prep

The University of Illinois will have a hand in making sure law enforcement across the state is prepared for people who are carrying a concealed weapon.

Concealed carry was made legal earlier this month, and although you can't legally carry yet, officials are preparing for when that time comes.

And the state's Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board announced on Tuesday that the UI's Police Training Institute will help prepare a curriculum on concealed carry that police recruits will complete.  It'll also be available to current officers.

The program will focus on how officers should interact with those who might be carrying, how to verify that a concealed carry permit is valid and how officer safety is changed with the new law, among other things.
