Misdemeanor plea brings 85-day jail term

URBANA — A 20-year-old Rantoul man arrested in early May in connection with a shooting has been sentenced to 85 days in the county jail.

Devin Lindsey, 20, who listed an address in the 600 block of Willow Pond, pleaded guilty Tuesday before Judge Heidi Ladd to misdemeanor possession of firearm ammunition.

He admitted that on May 6 he had .22-caliber ammunition when he should not have because of a previous conviction for obstructing identification.

Lindsey was in a group of men who Champaign police said fired shots from a sport utility vehicle in the 1300 block of North Champaign Street on May 6.

A charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon alleging he had a loaded gun without a firearm owner's identification card was dismissed in return for his plea.

Lindsey was given credit for time already served.
