Worker hurt at I-57 construction site
CHAMPAIGN — A 20-year-old Gifford man was listed in fair condition on Friday after being injured in a construction accident on Interstate 57.
State police say Brett Harris was injured at 1:26 p.m. Friday at a work site on northbound I-57 about 1 miles north of the Olympian Road interchange.
A state police report said Harris, working at the site, was walking between a concrete barricade and a John Deere excavator being operated by Kevin Delmore, 43, of Champaign. Delmore turned the excavator, pinning Harris between the machine and the barricade.
Harris was listed Friday evening in fair condition at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
No tickets have been issued.
"No tickets have been issued".
I understand that this was a serious accident, and a man's life has been put at risk.
But I have to ask. For what would a ticket be issued here? It was a construction accident... not a traffic accident.
I thought the same thing.. very odd.
