Champaign man sentenced to probation in sex case

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted having sexual contact with a teenage girl was sentenced Monday to two years of probation.

Once Manson Davis, 32, of the 3300 block of Kimberly Drive, gets a sex offender evaluation and treatment recommendation, then Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis will confirm his sentence, which was the result of a negotiated plea agreement.

Davis pleaded guilty to a single count of criminal sexual abuse, admitting contact that occurred around March 22 with a girl who is the daughter of an acquaintance.

In return for his guilty plea, three other more serious counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse will be dismissed at the time his plea is expected to be confirmed on Sept. 16.

Davis also agreed to have no contact with the girl or her mother, register as a sex offender and forfeit to Champaign police a cellphone.
