Crimestoppers subject arrested on drug charges

URBANA — A Champaign man who had been wanted on drug charges since mid-June was arrested earlier this week.

James Lassiter, 39, who listed addresses in the 4100 block of Amherst Drive and the 1700 block of McKinley Avenue, had been wanted on a warrant charging him with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance.

The felony charges allege sales of small amounts of heroin that occurred on July 17 and 18, 2012, at locations in the 600 block of South Crescent Drive and the 400 block of Louisiana Avenue, Champaign, respectively. The sales were made to sources working with Champaign police.

Lassiter had been the subject of Crimestoppers this week and appeared in court on Tuesday. He's being held in lieu of $100,000 bond in the case alleging heroin sales. He's also being held on a petition to revoke the probation he received in August 2012 for another drug conviction.

Lassiter is due back in court Aug. 26 on both cases.

Because of his criminal record, Lassieter faces a mandatory prison term of between three and 14 years should he be convicted on the heroin delivery charges. Court records show he has four previous drug-related convictions.
