Man gets probation in incident at woman's home

URBANA — A Champaign man was sentenced to probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to a reduced charge in connection with an incident at the home of a woman he had recently met.

Jovonie Jackson, 24, who listed an address in the 1200 block of Parkland Court, pleaded guilty to criminal trespass to residence, admitting that on May 30, he entered a woman's home in the 1500 block of North Mattis Avenue without her permission.

A more serious charge of home invasion was dismissed as was a misdemeanor battery charge.

Champaign police said Jackson had gone to the home of a woman he had known just a short time, wanting to be let in. When she refused, he allegedly pushed his way in and got into a physical altercation with another man who was there.

Jackson was sentenced to 30 months of probation and sentenced to 71 days in jail but given credit for time already served.

An unrelated misdemeanor battery charge filed in August 2012 was also dismissed as part of Jackson's negotiated plea agreement.
