Sadorus board may change setback rules

SADORUS — The village board will consider amending yard setbacks in the town's zoning ordinance at its next meeting.

The existing ordinance has side and back yard setback requirements of 10 feet and front yard setback requirements of 25 feet.

Village President John Deedrick said he thinks any lot that is 66 feet by 132 feet or smaller should have a different setback requirement.

"Every time we have an application for a building permit, they get denied," Deedrick said, noting that the applicant then has to apply for a variance.

"We're telling them right off the bat they can't build on it (the lot)," he said.

Deedrick suggested that the ordinance be changed to require a 5-foot side and back yard setback.

Trustee Dave Lancaster supported the idea.

"It seems like it ought to be loosened up somehow," Lancaster said.

A public hearing on the matter will be held at the start of the village board meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at the village hall, 115 E. Market St.
