Gunman robs bank in downtown Danville
DANVILLE — Police are searching for a man who robbed First Midwest Bank in downtown Danville on Monday morning.
The suspect came into the bank at 27 N. Vermilion St. at 10:35 a.m. Monday, approached one of the tellers, showed a small firearm and demanded money, according to Public Safety Director Larry Thomason. Police were alerted by a bank alarm.
“He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank through the west doors,” Thomason said in a news release Monday. “No one in the bank was injured and the doors were locked immediately after his exit.”
The robber was described as a male white in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses, dark-colored tank top and camouflage pants with large pockets on the sides.
Thomason said police believe the suspect got into a gold-colored passenger vehicle that was driving east on North Street.
Danville police and the FBI are working the case and anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 431-2250 or use Crimestoppers, which offers a reward, at 446-8477.
