Two hearings set over annexations by MTD

URBANA — Two public hearings over annexations by the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District are scheduled for this week.

The first will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Stephens Family YMCA, 2501 Fields South Drive, C. That proposed annexation will take in the YMCA and the Windsor West apartment complex in southwest Champaign.

It is dependent on the Champaign Southwest Mass Transit District filing formal dissolution papers with the Champaign County Board. MTD officials have stated that they will not annex the area until the Champaign Southwest MTD, which has never offered bus service, officially goes out of business.

The second will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Savoy Recreational Center, 402 Graham Drive, Savoy. It involves the Prairie Meadows subdivision in Savoy. The MTD board could act on it later this month.

At least four other annexation proposals are expected to be the subject of public hearings and MTD board action later this year. Those include the Stone Creek and Deerfield Trails subdivisions in Urbana and the Boulder Ridge and Sawgrass subdivisions in Champaign.
