More charges filed against two men

URBANA — The Champaign County state's attorney has filed additional charges against two men already charged with burglary and theft in connection with the theft of electronics during July.

Jacob Richter-Shea, 18, of the 800 block of West Clark Street, Champaign, has been in jail since July 31, when he was arrested for a July 28 incident in which he allegedly stole an iPad from a woman at the Illini Union.

On Friday, he was also charged with burglary and theft for allegedly entering a car that was outside the Pizza Hut, 411 E. Green St., C, on July 14, and stealing the owner's iPhone that was inside.

Also charged with both crimes is Frederick Young, 18, who listed an address on Sterling Court in Savoy, who remains free on bond.

Assistant State's Attorney Steve Ziegler said the men were seen on surveillance video putting the stolen phone in a kiosk at Market Place Mall, where they got $230 cash for it.

That case was developed by Champaign police while the other involving the iPad theft at the Union was investigated by UI police.

UI police Sgt. Tom Geis said earlier this month that the two may have been responsible for as many as 10 thefts or burglaries in the Campustown area involving electronics during the month of July.

Richter-Shea is due back in court Oct. 22 on the more recent charges.
