New Urbana Early Childhood School to be dedicated Saturday

A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Saturday at the new Urbana Early Childhood School.

Principal Cris Vowels said the new facility replaces the Washington Early Childhood School thanks to the 1% sales tax approved in Champaign County in 2009.

She said the old building wasn't up to date and couldn't provide the best programs for students, so the Urbana School District committed to getting a building that was functional and efficient for students, faculty and parents.

Vowels added that the new school will make teaching and learning easier and more effective.

The ribbon cutting ceremony starts Saturday at noon at the Urbana Early Childhood School on Washington Street in Urbana.

The facility serves students aged three to five who have risk factors in their homes and students with special needs.
