Champaign man faces charges over gunfire

URBANA — A Champaign man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $1,002,500 bond following his arrest in connection with a shooting in a north Champaign neighborhood last month.

Anton Marquette Clark, 22, who listed an address in the 1200 block of North Carver Drive, Champaign, was charged Monday with one count of being an armed habitual criminal, aggravated discharge of a firearm, operating an uninsured vehicle and driving on a suspended license.

After Clark asked for more time to hire an attorney, his next court appearance was set for Sept. 4.

A second man, Jordan Brooks, 25, of the 1700 block of West Clark Street, Champaign, turned himself in at the Champaign County sheriff's office on Aug. 7, less than 24 hours after police put out information that he and Clark were wanted in connection with a July 28 shooting in the 1200 block of North Carver Drive.

A 15-year-old girl was hit with glass when a storm door in her home shattered, but no one was apparently injured by the gunfire.

Brooks, who was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons and aggravated discharge of a firearm, is next scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 8.
