Crystal Lake Pool to be open an extra week

URBANA — The new Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center will be open daily for an extra week with back-to-school hours.

Originally the Urbana Park District intended to close the pool after Labor Day, Sept. 2, said Vicki Mayes, the district's executive director.

"But because we opened late (July 4) and because the weather seems to be heating up, we thought it would be good for us to extend it another week," she said.

"It's relatively easy for us to do this because we have access to a large number of guards," she said, because the park district also operates an indoor pool.

The pool now will be open, weather permitting, through Sept. 8. The weather forecast is calling for high temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s for the next 10 days.

"We're hoping for three really hot weekends to close out the summer," Mayes said.

The aquatic center will be open as long as temperatures are 72 degrees or warmer.

The pool, at 1401 N. Broadway Ave., U, will be open weekdays from 4 to 8 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The entry fee on weekdays is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. The entry fee on weekends is $6 for residents and $9 for non-residents, with a reduction to $4 and $6 starting at 5 p.m.

Lap swim times are on weekdays from 6 to 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. In addition, the district has added toddler swim time from 10:30 a.m. to noon weekdays.
