OAKWOOD — The Vermilion County sheriff's department is investigating an armed robbery at the United Community Bank, 106 S. Oakwood St., early Wednesday afternoon.

The sheriff's department and Oakwood police received a call for the incident at about 12:20 p.m.

According to witnesses, a man walked into the bank, approached a teller, displayed a handgun and asked for money, sheriff's Sgt. Bill Hurt said. After he was given an undisclosed amount, he ran out of the bank.

Hurt said employees and customers were at the bank at the time, but no one was injured.

The robber was described as a white man in his late 30s to early 40s, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a stocky build. He was wearing a light-colored tank top, camouflage-colored cargo pants, a baseball cap and dark sunglasses.

Witnesses did not get a description of the vehicle.
